Course Aims and Overview

Basic Harness and Height Awareness Course

This course is designed to provide operatives with the knowledge and tools to work safely at height.

Duration: 5 hours (the timings may vary due to the number of delegates attending and previous working at height knowledge).
Assessment: Oral questions throughout the course and a theoretical test paper.
Certification: Valid for 3 years.
Maximum number of delegates per course: 10
Note: This course is a mainly theory-based course, Practical element is pre-use inspection and the correct method of donning a full body harness. If you require specific practical training i.e. leading edge / ladder restraint and hangman training, contact our team and we can arrange a bespoke course to suit your needs.

Venue Requirements

Room required with lighting and power connections, for projector, and seating for up to 10 delegates.

  • Safety legislation, work at height regulations 2005
  • Accident statistics
  • Hazards and risks
  • Fall prevention, fall restraint, fall protection & fall arrest
  • Harness types and design standards
  • Component parts of a fall arrest system (A,B,C,D & E of Fall arrest)
  • Identifying correct anchor points (EN795 and Improvised)
  • Pre-Use inspection of harness and PFPE
  • Correct donning of harness with practical exercise
  • Correct storage and care of PFPE IE: Harness/lanyard Inertia Reels etc
  • Understand the need for Rescue provision and requirements
  • Hazard analysis & risk assessment

Client Requirements

Client to provide samples of Harnesses and lanyards when course is conducted on-site.
